Will UAE fuel prices stay the same or drop in April?

Fuel prices are always a key concern for drivers across the UAE, especially as global oil markets continue to experience fluctuations. With April approaching, many motorists are waiting to see whether petrol and diesel prices will fall after the increases recorded in March. Recent developments in the oil market have brought some signs of easing pressure, but analysts say a significant drop in fuel costs remains uncertain.

Throughout the year, fuel prices in the UAE are reviewed regularly to reflect global market conditions. The country adjusts petrol and diesel rates at the end of each month based on international oil price movements. Because of this system, local fuel prices often rise or fall in response to broader trends in the global energy market.

Over the past year, motorists in the UAE have experienced several price adjustments as oil markets responded to geopolitical developments, supply concerns, and changes in global demand. Sudden shifts in oil prices can quickly influence the cost of fuel, which is why market watchers closely monitor international crude benchmarks.

Recently, global oil markets have seen notable volatility. Prices initially surged amid concerns about potential disruptions to oil supply routes in the Gulf region. The possibility of tensions affecting key shipping channels raised fears that global energy flows could be interrupted, pushing crude prices higher.

However, oil prices later pulled back as signs emerged that tensions between the United States and Iran might ease. Reports indicating progress in diplomatic discussions helped reduce immediate concerns about possible attacks on energy infrastructure, leading to a decline in crude prices from their recent highs.

Despite this downward movement, analysts say the broader oil market remains elevated compared to levels seen earlier this year. Even after the recent pullback, crude prices are still significantly higher than they were in late February. Benchmark prices such as Brent crude and U.S. crude have remained at relatively strong levels, reflecting ongoing uncertainty in the market.

Experts note that the recent drop does not necessarily signal a full return to stable conditions. Instead, it mainly reflects a reduction in immediate fears rather than a long-term resolution of supply concerns. Energy markets remain sensitive to geopolitical developments, particularly in regions that play a critical role in global oil transportation.

One of the most important factors influencing the oil market is the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. Any disruption to shipping through this narrow passage can quickly impact international supply and influence crude prices worldwide. Even partial restrictions or uncertainty surrounding the route can keep prices elevated.

Market analysts also point out that infrastructure risks and logistical challenges continue to affect energy markets. While some tensions may have eased temporarily, the possibility of new developments means oil prices could still move sharply in either direction in the coming weeks.

Because of this environment, forecasting fuel prices remains difficult. The earlier surge in crude oil was largely driven by geopolitical concerns rather than a sudden shortage of supply. As a result, even when prices decline slightly, they may still remain higher than previous months.

For UAE motorists, the outlook for April fuel prices appears somewhat mixed. The recent fall in oil prices suggests that the sharp upward pressure seen earlier may have eased. This reduces the likelihood of another strong increase in petrol and diesel prices next month.

At the same time, crude prices are still trading well above the levels recorded just a month ago. This means that while a significant price jump may now be less likely, a noticeable drop at the pump is also unlikely under current market conditions.

Based on the latest trends, fuel prices in April are more likely to remain close to the rates announced for March, possibly moving only slightly depending on how global oil markets evolve before the official announcement.

Currently, March 2026 fuel prices in the UAE were set at Dh2.59 per litre for Super 98 petrol, Dh2.48 for Special 95, Dh2.40 for E-Plus 91, and Dh2.72 for diesel. These figures were higher than those recorded in February, reflecting the earlier surge in global oil prices.

Looking ahead, much will depend on developments in international energy markets. If geopolitical tensions continue to ease and shipping routes return fully to normal operations, oil prices could face downward pressure. On the other hand, any renewed instability or disruption could quickly push crude prices higher again.
